What Makes Jewelry Sentimental?

What Makes Jewelry Sentimental?

For me (Sophie 👋🏼), jewelry has always been fundamentally about beauty, adornment, and meaning. I aspire to make pieces that not only make you feel beautiful, but develop a story as you carry them with you.

The pieces that mean the most to me all have one thing in common: sentiment. That special quality that makes your heart swell a little when you clasp a necklace or slip on a ring.

Here are a few ways a piece of jewelry becomes truly sentimental to me:

It’s connected to someone I love.

Some of my most cherished pieces were given to me or passed down by someone dear. My grandmother's necklace, for example, holds not just beauty, but her memory and love woven into every detail.

It becomes part of my everyday ritual.

There’s something about the pieces we reach for again and again. My mother of pearl silver signet ring is one I wear daily — not just because it goes with everything 😉, but because it has quietly gathered meaning through time and routine.

It’s tied to a milestone or memory.

Jewelry often marks life’s biggest, most emotional moments - a birth, a wedding, an anniversary. My wedding set is the most meaningful jewelry I have because it's a symbol of that day, my relationship, and our love. Each glance down at my rings brings it back.

It was created just for me (or you).

There’s deep meaning in custom, one-of-a-kind pieces. They often combine all of the elements that make jewelry sentimental, especially if we are working with heirloom stones or marking a moment.

The earrings I made for my wedding reflect me — my style, my story, my hands that shaped them. Custom pieces become heirlooms the moment they’re made.

It carries symbolism that resonates.

Sometimes the significance lies in the details. The stones, the shapes, the design. My spiral signet ring reminds me of growth, evolution, and the beauty of life’s continuous unfolding.

At Take Shape Studio, that’s what we love most about jewelry — the way it holds stories, feelings, and individuality. Every custom piece we create starts with an idea, evolves through collaboration, and ends up infused with meaning that’s entirely your own.

Whether it’s something passed down, designed just for you, or collected over time, the right piece of jewelry becomes more than an accessory — it becomes part of your story.
