The meaning behind a custom piece sometimes comes from the event it's marking, and sometimes it emerges from a deep history within the materials.
This ring began long before the sketch, long before the stones were set. The small but mighty diamond was carried across borders tucked into the lining of Johanna's great grandmother’s jacket. Sewn in by hand, hidden for safekeeping, it made its way to America as a bracelet surreptitiously featuring exactly enough diamonds for each future grandchild. For years, Johanna's diamond stayed close but unworn, waiting for the right moment to become something new.
When Johanna came to me, she wanted to design a piece of jewelry that felt representative of her modern style and the depth of the diamond's history.
We chose to pair the heirloom diamond with a deep green tourmaline, its color grounding and alive, a quiet contrast to the diamond’s brightness. Set side by side in platinum, the stones feel balanced but distinct. The band is solid and smooth, designed to feel effortless but substantial.
A past carried forward, reshaped with care.
